I Just Lap It Up Like Honey

 

As I have mentioned before, one of my favorite resources for planning our whimsical 1950s-inspired wedding has been Youtube.com and its wealth of home movies.

The other day, as I was endlessly sewing felt and button flowers to adorn the bridesmaids' bouquets (more on that, later), I came across this darling gem of retro cinema:

Not only was their wedding movie long enough to satiate my endless and undying hunger for vintage details , it also was deliciously corny.  No doubt the Pashman-Ames families paid a pretty penny for such a high-tech production, and I am so glad because I am lapping up every awkwardly scripted and staged moment like honey!

So this is old news, but WB reader JFS, pointed out the smashing white dinner jackets worn by the groom and others at socialite Lauren Davis' wedding in January:

OMG! Is the bride (pretty, but not amazingly gorgeous normally, IMHO), not the most stunning thing everI don't feel that I've emphasized that enough. Here, have an extra '??!'

OMG!!!! (now I'm getting redundant) That train! That shrug/blanket/shawl/whatever is to die for (even more than Smitherman and Barnwell :)) !Davis, who is the Contributing Fashion Editor for Vogue, wed billionaire Andres Santo Domingo in the port city of Cartagena, Columbia. She wore a gown designed by Nina Ricci - a gown made of over 60m of jacquard silk, and took over 1,200 hours to make!

Vogue + billions of smackaroos apparently = OMG!!!

The ceremony was held in a historical church with no air-conditioning. Yikes. Sweaty, yes, but completely fabulous.

 In sum, Lauren Davis had the most amazingly hot and sweaty Columbian wedding, and I am completely, utterly, and entirely, head over heels in lust for it. Oh, and Mr. Shortcake is SO wearing a white dinner jacket and black bow-tie!

Quirky, yes, charming, definitely - bicycles would make an exceptionally adorable entrance or exit for a casual, outdoorsy wedding, and as a motif are delightfully unexpected. I spent my university career pedalling around campus (often in heels for sorority meetings :) ) so bicycles definitely pull at my heart-strings, if not at my gear chain!

C) Did my new colour palette appear every where in the magazine (ballet pink, white, buttercream yellow, mustard, grey, charcoal, tiffany green)



D) She had a whole article about ribbons!

Ribbons are beautiful, silky creatures. I like ribbons. I love ribbons. I love ribbons almost as much as Miss Lovebug does, although I haven't entered a 12 step program for my addiction yet.

I Love Me Some Colours: Re-painting for Portraits

Sasha and Abel had their wedding portraits taken in front of a wall in Sasha's old bedroom that had been painted turqouise specifically for the wedding!

I know my mother would be game as she changes the wall colours along with the seasons - and I LOVE the freedom in choosing your backdrop colour (incorporating wedding scheme, anyone? :) )

The Titanic Dress Story

In general, I sleep soundly through the night- except for when I am (according to Mr. Shortcale) singing, talking backwards, or acting out dramatic scenes. I have been fortunate enough to sleep uninterrupted by any nocturnal visitations of the nuptial-nymph. My other half, however, wakes up quite regularly and tells me in fevered tones of his rendezvous with HER...

 

For example, last night I failed to show up for our ceremony, which, naturally, was being held in the Rose Garden at our university, UBC, leaving one Shortcake very anxious and concerned that he had been ditched because....he had

"gone swimming in the pool for too long"?

Swimming + groom = broken engagement.

Some bit of logic is missing there, but then again, that was a dream.

For one unlucky bride, however, her big-day dreams quickly became worse than the sprinklings of that tutu-clad tormentress...
